The cool, clean waters of our lakes and
sandy beaches are open to swimmers
during warm weather. With no lifeguards
on duty, swim at your own risk, observe
all signs and posted warnings, and be
alert to abrupt drop-offs and changes
in lake bottom characteristics.
If fresh water swimming doesn’t float
your boat, the City of Pierre has a
brand-new Outdoor Waterpark opening
Summer 2024. Hit the slides, float the
lazy river, or swim laps in the 50-meter
pool. The Oahe Family YMCA holds the
Pierre Aquatic Center, which encourages
year-round swimming and features
a waterslide, diving board, spray toys
and an eight-lane, 25-meter pool. Locker
rooms and showers are available in the
complex. The YMCA also offers a fully
outfitted gym, racquetball courts
