South Dakota Game, Fish
& Parks provides licenses for
both hunting and fishing!

South Dakota Game Fish & Parks holds
an annual state parks open house and free
fishing weekend. During this time, anyone
may fish in South Dakota without a license.
The rest of the year, licenses are required
for both residents and nonresidents.

South Dakota issues resident and non-
resident hunting licenses in game-specific
categories. Application deadlines typically
fall two to four months before the season
opens. Some nonresident licenses are
available via lottery only. Parents may
purchase youth permits for their children.
